Harlequins Captain Danny Care Commits to the Club
Harlequins can announce today (Friday 4th December) that captain Danny Care has committed his long term future with Harlequins after re-signing with the Club.
Commenting on the news, the 28 year-old said: “I really am delighted. The re-signing process was done very quickly as there was never any doubt in my mind to go anywhere else. Harlequins is a club that I love; I’m very proud and honored to play for and captain the team.
“I love being here, I’m part of a great group of people and I’m really excited to have pledged my commitment to the Club for the next few years.”
Care, one of the most exciting and dangerous players in world rugby, joined Harlequins in 2006 from Leeds and has since made over 180 appearances for the London club, scoring more than 50 tries.
The electric scrum-half personifies Harlequins’ exciting style of play with the pace and creativity he injects into a game.
In doing so, he played an integral role in Harlequins’ Amlin Challenge Cup and Aviva Premiership winning seasons in 2011 and 2012 respectively.
As a popular and well respected member of the squad, Care was named Club captain ahead of the 2015/16 season. His energy, experience and enthusiasm, developed throughout his time with Harlequins, provide the perfect mix to lead the diverse group within the 51-man squad.
Having represented his country through age grade and 7s levels, he made his full international Test debut against New Zealand in 2008. Since then, he has made 53 Test appearances, winning the 2011 RBS Six Nations and participating in Rugby World Cup 2015.
Confirming the news, Harlequins Director of Rugby, Conor O’Shea added: “Danny is the ultimate game changer and has matured and grown in front of us all. In Danny we see the Harlequins style stamped all over the way he approaches the game.
“Captaincy is another natural progression for him and I am looking forward to watching him kick on and become an even better player. In my opinion, with the skillset he possesses, he should go on to win 100 caps for England and win more silverware for the Club.”
