The Los Angeles Dodgers star outfielder can’t seem to stay out of trouble, but he has recently been cleared of the reports that came out earlier today alleging he shoved his sister in a nightclub in Miami. Reports came out today from TMZ, that Yasiel Puig was involved in an altercation in a bar in Miami that involved him shoving his sister during an argument. TMZ also reported that security staff from the bar intervened in an attempt to defuse the situation. But instead of restoring the peace, Puig reportedly became very upset with them, and punched one of the bouncers in the face before he was contained by security. Puig was also reportedly struck by the bouncer, but neither Puig nor the bouncer decided to press charges.
Major Delrish Moss of the Miami PD stated today that, “no shoving was alleged, to the best of our knowledge, the only physical altercation was between the bouncer and Puig.” Because neither Puig nor the bouncer are pursuing pressing charges, the Miami PD considers the matter closed.
Despite being cleared, Major League Baseball has announced that they will be investigating the incident, and Puig could still be disciplined by MLB commissioner, Rob Manfred.
Following the incident, the Dodgers may have finally had enough of the outfielder’s antics, as he has been reportedly difficult in the clubhouse in the past. Additionally, Puig has failed to live up to his tremendous rookie season, when he hit .319/.391 /.534 with a 4.9 WAR and finished second in the National League Rookie of the Year voting behind Jose Fernandez.
Puig missed much of the 2015 season due to injury and only played in 79 games. In his injury-shortened season, Puig hit just .255/.322/.436 with a 1.1 WAR. Puig also collected no hits or walks in six plate appearances in the postseason.
