Harlequins Unite for Movember Foundation

Harlequins are competing with the other Aviva Premiership clubs to raise funds for the Movember Foundation.

Harlequins squad get into the Movember spirit

Matt Hopper’s flowing blonde locks are tough to miss on the rugby pitch but, according to Harlequins Mo Captain Karl Dickson, his upper lip leaves a lot to be desired.

Premiership Rugby has announced a new and exciting partnership with the Movember Foundation, designed to improve the physical and mental health of rugby fans across the country and contribute to the vital fundraising efforts of the charity.

The new relationship sees the men’s health foundation become an official charity partner of Premiership Rugby.

Central to the new partnership is to support the UK fundraising efforts, dedicated to changing the face of men’s health in Movember, the month formerly known as November. Premiership Rugby is running an Aviva Premiership Rugby league table with a ‘Mo Captain’ from each of the 12 clubs.  Fans are being encouraged to join, support and donate to their teams by clicking here.

Scrum-half Dickson is the man in charge at the Stoop and while some moustaches are blossoming, he admits a few are still lagging behind.

“Everyone is getting into the spirit of Movember,” said Dickson. “Apart from the boys who can’t grow a moustache!

“Matt Hopper is struggling a bit – the bright blonde hair is not showing – and some of the younger guys are making slow progress.

“Tito Tebaldi is going pretty well so far and Nick Evans isn’t looking too bad. I’m looking good too – a nice little tight mo.”

At the heart of the partnership will be the new MOVE like a Pro initiative, launching in January, which offers rugby fans the opportunity to take part in a 12-week programme at their local Premiership Rugby club to increase health and wellbeing of fans at hour-long sessions using clubs’ training staff and facilities to exercise and receive expert guidance.

The MOVE like a Pro programme will be part of Premiership Rugby’s award-winning BreakThru community campaign and it’s at the heart of the Movember Foundation’s ongoing strategy to change the face of men’s health.

And Dickson has enjoyed seeing the whole squad get into the Movember spirit and do their bit for a worthy cause.

“It is just about getting the word out on social media, while a few of the England boys are auctioning some signed shirts to raise money,” he added.

“It is a great charity, it is worldwide now and it has been going for about 15 years now. It is just a sign of solidarity between everyone – it is a horrible thing to go through, cancer. It’s a great cause.

“I’m not too concerned about the leaderboard. It is not about who wins and loses – it is about everyone doing as much as you can.”
