On Friday night, the Boston Celtics announced that guard Marcus Smart will miss at least two games with a knee injury. Smart suffered the injury in Friday’s game against the Brooklyn Nets.
It is not yet clear when Smart will take to the court again, but the Celtics have already confirmed that Smart will miss at least the next two games. Smart will miss games against Brooklyn, Atlanta, and perhaps Philadelphia, if the injury is worse then currently feared.
Smart is averaging 9.8 points, 3.8 rebounds and 3.2 assists per game through nine games this season. Boston sits atop the Atlantic Division right now, with a record of 7-5.
The Celtics, along with their head coach, Brad Stevens, seem to be getting better each game. As a young team, the Celtics are always looking to improve, and with young players like Marcus Smart, they will eventually do so.
Smart just needs to find his role; not only within his team, but in the NBA, as a player who can play both point and shooting guard. Smart needs to figure out which position in particular he wants to play for the foreseeable future. Doing so will help his career progress faster than just putting up good numbers, night to night.
Smart’s injury isn’t severe, so in all likelihood, he will return sooner rather than later.
