The National Women’s Hockey League and New England Sports Network announced on Wednesday that NESN will broadcast eight Boston Pride games in the 2015-2016 NWHL Season.
The partnership agreement between the NWHL and NESN marks the first broadcasting rights agreement for the new professional hockey league.
NWHL and NESN Reach First Broadcasting Deal
The first NESN broadcast will debut on Sunday November 22, when the Pride host the New York Riveters at 3:00 PM. On the league’s website, NWHL Commissioner, Dani Rylan said, “The broadcast value of the women’s game has never been better, and we are happy NESN is providing a stage for and shining a spotlight on some of the best players in the world.”
Rylan added, “This is a great opportunity for women’s hockey to reach the four million viewers in the NESN’s coverage area. Harvard Athletics and the staff at the Bright-Landry Hockey Center deserve a big thank you for their support of this deal.”
The Pride are one of the four inaugural teams to play in the NWHL, play their home games at the Bright-Landry Hockey Center on the campus of Harvard University. Bright-Landry, recently underwent a renovation and has historically prided itself on being a state of the art facility for video production and broadcasting.
NESN’s Vice President of Programming and Production, Joseph Maar told the league’s website, “We are to become the first television partner of the NWHL during its inaugural season, some of the best women hockey players in the world will play on NESN this winter. We hope fans will catch this new league on Sunday afternoons.”
NESN or NESN Plus will broadcast games on November 22 against the Riveters at 3:00 PM, November 29 against the Connecticut Whale at 3:00 PM, and December 6 versus the Riveters at 3:30.
NESN Plus will broadcast the December 20 game when they take on the Buffalo Beauts at 3:00 PM, the January 3 against the Beauts at 3:00 PM, the January 10 versus the Riveters at 3:00, and the January 7 and 14 both against the Whale at 3:00.
All of the NESN and NESN Plus games will also be broadcasted on the NWHL’s YouTube channel for fans living outside of the NESN viewing area through the NWHL Live: Cross Ice Pass, by following the following link, http://nwhl.co/cross-ice-pass/.
