Top Midseason Detroit Lions Pro Bowl Candidates

Here are some players on the Detroit Lions pro bowl candidates at the mid-point of the season.

With the Detroit Lions season basically already over since they are 1-7, it is pretty tough to find players that are Pro Bowl worthy this year. The defense has been bad and the offense has been much worse. With changes happening in the front office and more than likely a change happening at head coach at the end of the season, it’ll be interesting to see what this team does moving forward when it comes to their roster. Overall though, there have been a very select few players who you can consider for Pro Bowl material.

Top Midseason Detroit Lions Pro Bowl Candidates

Ezekiel (Ziggy) Ansah

Ansah has been the only bright spot on the defensive line since the departures of Ndamukong Suh and Nick Fairley seem to look very bad for this team. Ansah leads the team with seven sacks and has forced three fumbles as well. He has already matched his sack total from last year and is looking like a good draft pick for this team when they took him two years ago. If he keeps this up, he’ll soon be the focal point of this defensive line and they’ll have to build around him. He definitely could be a replacement at defensive end if somebody ahead of him doesn’t end up playing in the Pro Bowl game.

Glover Quin

Now, he may not be having the Pro Bowl caliber season he had last year, but he is still playing good enough football to prove that he earned that spot last year and is a considerable candidate in 2015. He has two interceptions this year, which leads the team, and has taken one of those interceptions for a touchdown. He is fourth on the team in tackles and looks to keep playing at a consistent pace.

Matt Prater

Some people probably think it’s a joke to nominate a kicker for the Pro Bowl, but Matt Prater has the stats to show that you can actually consider him for the Pro Bowl. He is 8 for 8 on field goals and his longest on the year is a 52 yarder. He is also 15 for 16 on extra points and looks to be one of the few trusted sources on offense for the Lions.

Overall, the Lions have the talent on their team. It just doesn’t really show on the football field this year. Considering these three are going to be back with the team next year, expect fans to be excited about these guys when that time comes around again.
