The Florida Gators have the advance portion of the equation down, and now Jim McElwain’s club needs to survive four more games to have a shot at the final advancement. David Waters of GatorSportsRadio.com joins MarkRogersTV to break down Florida’s offensive woes following a painful 9-7 win over Vandy that wrapped up the SEC East.
Like any offense, it starts at quarterback. Following a productive outing in his first start at LSU, Treon Harris seems to be regressing. The sophomore hit on just 12 of 24 passes for 158 yards vs the Commodores. David brings some suggestions on how to make the offense more comfortable for Harris’ skill set.
Kelvin Taylor could only budge Vandy for 47 yards on 17 carries. The Gators woeful 275 yards of total offense included a non-existent 57 yards in the second half. Florida also lost three fumbles after entering the game with one of the nation’s top turnover rates at +13.
A struggling offense can be picked up by a kicker who threatens the scoreboard once inside the 50. Florida carries even greater concerns in the kicking game with walk-on dental student Neil MacInnes missing an extra point. Ironically, the discarded Austin Hardin picked up the pieces with the game-winner from 43 yards.
Do the Gators have the answers with an improving South Carolina team on deck and Florida State in the finale before the SEC Title Game?
