Real Sociedad sack David Moyes after just a year in charge with the former Everton and Manchester United winning just 11 of his 38 matches at the helm, reports The Guardian.
The Basque Country side are struggling in La Liga, and a 2-0 defeat to fellow strugglers Las Palmas was the final straw for the board, who have now parted company with the Scotsman with the club level on points with the final relegation place.
Moyes took the manager’s job at the Spanish side last November after being sacked by Manchester United after just 10 months in charge. Real Sociedad were 16th when the 52-year-old was appointed and he leaves them in the same place he found them in after guiding them to a 12th place finish at the end of the 2014/15 season.
They have won just twice in 10 games this season and have yet to win at home this campaign. The hierarchy at the San Sebastián side feel the club should be challenging for a European place this season after spending over €23m on Asier Illarramendi and Jonathas in the summer, but the latest defeat gave them doubts that Moyes could provide the set target and instead be embroiled in a relegation battle.
Eusebio Sacristán, the former head coach at Celta and Barcelona B, is the favourite to replace Moyes at the Anoeta Stadium, but whoever takes over faces a baptism of fire with the club still to play Sevilla, Barcelona, Villarreal and Real Madrid before the year is out.
Moyes was linked with the vacant manager’s job at Aston Villa when they parted with Tim Sherwood but instead the job went to former Lyon boss Rémi Garde. The Scotsman had relative success at Everton, where he was in charge for 11 years, but his last two jobs have ended in failure.
