Three races remain in the NASCAR season, and all three of the nationally touring series have hot races for the championship coming down to the wire. One of the closest championship battles can be found in the Camping World Truck Series, where three drivers will battle for the title, separated by only thirteen points.
The truckers head south this weekend, arriving from the short track at Martinsville, Virginia to the high-banked oval at Texas Motor Speedway. Early in the race weekend, last weekend’s winner was already keeping up the momentum. Matt Crafton (#88 Menards Toyota) raced his way to the pole for the night race, the WinStar Casino 350 at Texas.
As the race got underway, two drivers would steal the show throughout the Friday night show, Matt Crafton and points leader Erik Jones (#4 Toyota). While Crafton would lead from the pole early, and take advantage of his number one pit stall to take back spots on pit stops, Erik Jones dominated the race, leading the most laps by far.
There would only be one caution for five laps in the race for debris, meaning lots of green flag racing and passing in the field. The race would become the second fastest run race in Truck Series history. On a night where a first time winner seemed very possible, Erik Jones would control the race from start to finish, and win the WinStar Casino 350 at Texas.
It would be a one-two finish for Kyle Busch Motorsports on the night with Daniel Suarez (#51 Arris Toyota) coming home in second. Third on the night would be super substitute Ryan Blaney (#29 Cooper Standard Ford), and championship contender Matt Crafton in fourth.
The championship hunt has become tougher now, as Erik Jones holds a 17-point lead over Matt Crafton, and leads Tyler Reddick by 21 points. The next chance the chasers will get to try and hunt him down will be next Friday night at Phoenix International Raceway, which can be seen live on FS1.
