Watford Boss Coy on Move For ex-Tottenham Hotspur Striker

Watford boss Quique Sanchez Flores was coy when questioned if he was interested in bringing former Tottenham Hotspur striker Emmanuel Adebayor to Vicarage Road, reports Sky Sports

Adebayor is currently without a club after being released from his contract by Spurs in September.

The Togo international scored 35 goals in 87 appearances for the North London outfit between 2011 and 2015, but fell out of favour under Mauricio Pochettino and made just 10 outings during the 2014/15 season. The 31-year-old began his career in France with spells at Metz and Monaco before signing for Arsenal in 2006. He later went on to have spells at Manchester City and Real Madrid.

Flores has the in-form Odion Ighalo and skipper Troy Deeney at his disposal in the striking department, but he may be prepared to bring Adebayor to the club on a short-term deal as he told Sky Sports

“I know Adebayor. I know him very well,” said Flores. “I love players with character, with talent, with hunger and soul.

“So if he [Adebayor] is in this case, he would be perfect – but no names at this moment.”

But he was keen to stress that his focus was on the players that he has in his squad:

“I don’t like to talk about players who don’t belong to the Watford team,” Flores said. “At the moment I am focused on the players at the training ground.

“But for me, the most important thing is that good players want to come to Watford. This is good news. So we would welcome all good players.”

The Hornets are currently sitting 11th in the Premier League following their promotion from the Championship, with 16 points from their first 11 matches, but face a tough test this weekend as they travel to face high-flying Leicester City at the King Power Stadium. But should Watford win, it will be the first time since 1987 that they have won three on the bounce in the top flight.
