Seth Rollins injured, new champion to be crowned at Survivor Series

In what will be the unfortunate end to his WWE World Heavyweight championship reign, Seth Rollins suffered a devastating knee injury in Ireland.

WWE has stated that due to the title being vacated with Seth Rollins injured for 6-9 months, a new champion will be crowned at Survivor Series

Rollins won the championship at Wrestlemania 31, cashing in his Money in the Bank contract in the middle of the main event between Roman Reigns and Brock Lesnar. Rollins defended the title at every pay per view since, as well as winning the WWE United States championship from John Cena to become a double champion. He lost the US Championship back to Cena at Night of Champions while defending the WWE World Heavyweight championship against Sting.

Rollins was originally scheduled to wrestle Roman Reigns at Survivor Series for the WWE World Heavyweight championship after completing a feud with Kane at Hell in a Cell. Reigns had unsuccessfully challenged Rollins for the WWE championship after being pinned by Rollins at Wrestlemania 31.

EDIT: WWE announced there will be a tournament at Survivor Series to crown the new WWE champion, reminiscent to “Survivor Series: Deadly Games” in 1998 when The Rock won his first WWF World Title.
