Edmond Tarverdyan claimed bankruptcy

According to an article published on Bloodyelbow by Paul Gift, Ronda Rosuey’s coach Edmond Tarverdyan filed for bankruptcy on July 29th of this year.

If something like a standard bankruptcy exists though, this is not one of them, and not just because it refers to the head coach of the most well paid MMA fighter in the world.  Rousey made $6.5 million between June 2014 to June 2015.

Tarverdyan states he is “not employed” and that he didn’t earn any money in 2015.  His claim also states that “he had no income from employment or from the operations of a business in 2013 and 2014” as well. $0.00 in gross wages, salary, tips, bonuses, commissions or any other business and profession. It should be noted that during this period, Rousey was crowned the UFC women’s bantamweight champion and defended the title on six occasions.

The only thing it appears he managed to collect is debts: over $700,000 split among several banks such as Bank of America, Barclays, CitiBank, HSBC and others.

As if that was not enough, Tarverdyan declared he did not file income taxes for the years 2013 and 2014. But that’s not all, “In fact,” he wrote in his statement, “I have not filed for several years now and cannot recall when was the last year I filed an income tax return.”

Oddly enough, in his bankruptcy statement there’s no mention of him owning the Glendale Fighting Club, commonly referred to as his gym. Thus, on the 21st of October, the trustee wrote in an application to the Court stating that the “Applicant’s preliminary investigation has revealed, among other things, that the Debtor transferred his interest in G.F.C. Fitness, Inc. (“GFC Fitness”), which owns and operates a fitness facility known as the Glendale Fighting Club in Glendale, California” and asked for permission to investigate further the details of said transfer.

The Armenian coach will now have to appear for a meeting with his creditors and answer, under oath, to questions from both the trustee and any creditor who will join the gathering. This hearing is scheduled to take place on the 16th of November, just two days after UFC 193, where in the main event Ronda Rousey will defend the UFC Women’s Bantamweight title for the 7th time against Holly Holm.
