The Dallas Cowboys (2-5) have officially released running back Joseph Randle on Tuesday prior to today’s trade deadline.
Before his release, the Cowboys had excused Randle from the team so he could deal with what the team called a “personal issue.” And according to multiple sources, Randle was also facing a possible suspension for violating the NFL’s personal conduct policy for an incident that took place this past February in Wichta, Kansas.
Prior to the Cowboys excusing Randle from the team, he had suffered a strained oblique after just two carries against the New York Giants on October 25. It wasn’t long after that game that the Cowboys announced that Darren McFadden would take Randle’s spot in the starting lineup.
Apparently there’s more going on with Randle’s well-being than the Cowboys are willing to talk about. After the Cowboys loss to the Seattle Seahawks (4-4) this past Sunday, the Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones, said he was concerned about Joseph Randle.
“I’m always concerned as to any issues regarding the (mental) health of a player,” Jones said. “It’s a lot more serious than the football (injury).”
Jerry Jones also said that Randle’s family is also trying to help him through this difficult time in his life.
“He has very good family support and has great siblings,” Jones said, “as well as a father who has shown he will give him some support.”
A series of unfortunate events have seemed to finally taken their toll on Joseph Randle. He’s had to deal with a possible punishment from the NFL, an oblique strain, a demotion from the starting lineup and a call he made to the Irving police department last Wednesday regarding his girlfriend he couldn’t find at the time.
The Dallas Cowboys drafted Randle with the 151st pick in the fifth-round of the NFL Draft in 2013. He was DeMarco Murray’s backup the first two seasons before Murray signed with the Philadelphia Eagles this past off season via free agency.
Randle had started the first six games for the Cowboys, rushing for 315 yards and four touchdowns on 76 carries.
