Pistons Guard Jodie Meeks out 3-4 Months with Foot Injury

The Detroit Pistons have announced that shooting guard Jodie Meeks has suffered an injury to his right foot. Meeks has had surgery on the foot to repair a non-displaced fracture of the fifth metatarsal. The injury took place in Wednesday’s 92-87 victory over the Utah Jazz. Meeks left the game with 9:32 left on the clock.

Meeks is expected to miss between 3-4 months, and the Pistons have said Meeks will be re-evaluated throughout the rehabilitation process.

“We’ll get further assessment and know better on a timetable in the next couple of days,” Pistons coach Stan Van Gundy said, according to mlive.com. “But they, they X-rayed him, he’s got a Jones fracture.”

To give you a better understanding of the injury and how severe it in fact is, the name of the injury is a Jones Fracture and Kevin Durant had the same injury last season, Durant missed only seven weeks. Meeks has not had as much luck on this occasion, as his injury may be the same in name, but is more severe.

Meeks is a six-year NBA veteran who was drafted out of the University of Kentucky by the Milwaukee Bucks in 2009.

Meeks is currently in the second year of a three year, $19.5 million deal. Meeks earned his deal with the Detroit Pistons after a good year with the Los Angeles Lakers in the 2014-15 season. Meeks averaged 15.7 points per game, Meeks has since failed to replicate such form in Detroit, as the shooting guard averaged 11.1 points per game last season for the Pistons.

One player who will benefit from the Jodie Meeks injury is Kentavious Caldwell-Pope. The promising guard will find himself playing more minutes than ever, with Meeks dropping out of the rotation for the next few months. This could be Caldwell-pope’s chance to shine in what is a young improving pistons team.

Meeks could be back from injury by mid February if rehabilitation progresses well.
