The Detroit Pistons have waived former NBA All-Star Danny Granger.
The 32-year old Granger only arrived in Detroit this off-season, after being involved in the Pistons trade with the Phoenix Suns which also brought forwards Marcus Morris and Reggie Bullock with Granger to Detroit. The move was a salary dump with the Suns only recieving a 2020 second round pick in return.
Granger did not play for the Suns last season due to a knee injury, but did play for the Miami Heat earlier in the year. Granger averaged 6.3 points and 2.7 rebounds coming off the bench in Miami. Granger was later traded to the Phoenix Suns at the NBA trade deadline, as the Heat made cap room in the Goran Dragic deal; before finding his way to the Detroit Pistons.
Granger is now looking for a new job, one which should not take long to find. When the injury bug hits certain teams in the NBA, players on the waiver list will always be useful to teams. Granger will now be one of those players; the only hurdle he must overcome is his own inconsistency. Granger has failed to average double figures in scoring since the 2011-12 season when he was a member of the Indiana Pacers.
Scoring is Granger’s forte, so if he doesn’t resurrect his old form that he had in Indiana, look for him to continue to be a well-traveled role player. He will get his chance but will find it very difficult to maintain a roster spot in the NBA going forward. Still his name, and former all-star status will see teams looking to add some points off the bench, continue to be interested in Granger.
