MLS Pick ‘Em 2015: Week 34 – Sporting Kansas City v. LA Galaxy

MLS Pick ‘Em 2015: Week 34 – Sporting Kansas City v. LA Galaxy

This is it folks. This one is for all the marbles, or the playoff seeding. Last week, only one brilliant writer picked San Jose to win over SKC. Standings mostly stayed the same though and all that can change this week is positioning of the top and bottom 3 heading into the playoffs. Just as a reminder, the playoffs will see the writers pick games head to head in a single elimination bracket. Typical seeding will apply. So let’s take a look at the standings before we get into today’s game.

Player Points Correct Outcome Correct Score Bonus Incorrect Percentage
Russ McKenzie 31 21 5 0 13 61.76%
Jeff Krause 30 22 4 0 12 64.71%
Joseph Goldstein 29 18 4 1 16 52.94%
Alec Rivera 22 14 4 0 20 41.18%
Eric Walcott 19 19 0 0 15 55.88%
Ned Joyce 12 10 1 0 24 29.41%
John Richan 11 11 0 0 23 32.35%
Michael Norton 10 10 0 0 24 29.41%

This week, SKC needs to find a result to ensure their playoff lives. LA comes to town on short rest and a mild case of the winless blues. No team wants to limp into the playoffs, so we might get to see a preview of what each team has in store for the postseason. The importance of this game for Kansas City most certainly relies on other results, but if they can get the job done, they will find themselves alive for another week. Let’s not mess around and get right into it. Here’s what the experts think:

SKC (2-1)

With the pressure on I think SKC gets the job done at home against the Galaxy who will likely be resting some players. Maybe this one is a draw, but I think KC has just enough left in the tank to make it to the playoffs on a high note.

DRAW (2-2) Both teams have something to play for, meaning it’ll be a wide open game. LA hasn’t been great on the road, but it’s crunch time, so their attack will step up.

Alec Rivera

SKC (2-0)

SKC made things interesting heading into the final week of the MLS Regular Season, with four Western Conference playoff spots up for grabs between five teams. LA isn’t superb at home, but having clinched a playoff spot will have much less to play for than Vermes’ men. LA also won’t crowd the penalty area with bodies, as Colorado did on Wednesday with success. Two Feilhaber assists seal the 6 seed for SKC.

DRAW (2-2) SKC is home, but LA is looking for blood after their loss to Portland. The soccer gods won’t let either succeed. So shall it be written….

DRAW (1-1) This one has “save it for the playoffs” written all over it for LA. They’ll score an early goal, and SKC will score a late one to secure a point as they do their end of season shooting star routine.

LA (3-1)

After a shocking loss at home to Colorado, Sporting KC still find themselves in a playoff fight. If San Jose weren’t matched up against a Supporters’ Shield candidate this game (and the result I’m predicting) could be the death blow for Sporting. But they get into the playoffs, mainly because the Quakes don’t.

SKC (2-1)

LA is tired from their CONCACAF game and just wants to rest their players before the playoffs
