The Saskatchewan Roughriders roster shuffling continues, and few, if any, should be shocked.
Today’s personnel changes for the Saskatchewan Roughriders are an indication that interim GM Jeremy O’Day has the confidence of CEO Craig Reynolds and the Board of Governors. Moreover, the trust displayed by the Rider brass screams that O’Day is going to have the advantage when this club chooses a full-time GM in the off-season.
The Riders made three moves starting with the activation of QB Blake Sims. He joins QB’s Brett Smith and Keith Price on the depth chart after the trade that sent Kevin Glenn to Montreal for a draft pick.
Sims was released earlier this season seemingly to bring in QB Hutson Mason who has now been released after declining an offer to compete for a job in training camp next year.
The Riders also added DB Keith Lewis to the practice roster, which is an interesting move unto itself.
The Riders traded the previously mentioned draft pick from Montreal to Calgary last week in the Jerome Messam deadline deal. The Riders got K Tyler Crapigna, a higher draft pick, and an unnamed player from the Stampeders negotiation list—that player was Lewis.
It will be exciting to see what he can bring to a group of DB’s who have graded out poorly in 2015.
Press Release
The Saskatchewan Roughriders have made the following transactions:
· ADD international quarterback Blake Sims to the roster.
· ADD international defensive back Keith Lewis to the practice roster.
· RELEASE international quarterback Hutson Mason from the practice roster.
Lewis (6’1 – 190) recently had his negotiation rights acquired by the Riders in a trade with the Calgary Stampeders. After four seasons at the Virginia University of Lynchburg the Chicago native signed as an undrafted free agent with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in May, 2014. He later went on to join the New York Jets practice squad in December and remained with the club through 2015 training camp, appearing in three preseason games.
