Jason Pierre-Paul to Meet With the Giants Tuesday

Jason-Pierre Paul is to meet with the Giants on Tuesday to determine his status with the team going forward following his Fourth of July accident.

The last time the New York Giants saw Jason Pierre-Paul, it was Labor Day. He was meeting with Giants officials and their medical staff to determine how damaged his right hand was. And it was determined that he wasn’t even close to being ready for football activities. He was told to report back in six weeks.

Now Pierre-Paul will return this week to hopefully convince the Giants that he can play, even if the fireworks accident caused permanent damage to his right hand. The meeting will hopefully take place Tuesday.

If by some miracle he’s deemed healthy enough to play, the next obstacle would be to have him sign his Franchise Tag, which at the moment stands at a maximum of $9.587 million because he’s missed the first six games of the season. Which would be a reduction from the $14.81 million tag that he refused to sign back during the summer. And if Pierre-Paul doesn’t sign that franchise tag by November 17, he’s required by the rules of the NFL to sit out the remainder of the season.

Pierre-Paul had his right index finger amputated along with the top portion of his thumb and he also has damage to his right middle finger all resulting from his fourth of July fireworks accident.

Without Pierre-Paul, the Giants defensive pass rush has been non-existent for the most part. As a team they only have seven sacks in five games and no player has more than two sacks heading into their Monday night matchup with their division rivals, the Philadelphia Eagles.

The Eagles (2-3) have gotten off to a rocky start to begin their season, but after an impressive victory against the New Orleans Saints, they hope the momentum from their win last week carries into Monday night when they take on the NFC East leading New York Giants (3-2).
