The NASCAR Camping World Truck Series began its long and storied history 499 races ago, debuting at Phoenix International Raceway. Now, race number 500 takes place in the UNOH 175 at New Hampshire, where another driver would write their name into the history books.
Leading into the race, the dominant driver of the weekend had been former series champion Austin Dillon (#33 Rheem Chevy). He would lead both practice sessions, as well as claim the pole. The other driver to watch on race day – the active leader in Trucks wins Kyle Busch (#51 Dollar General Toyota).
As the race got underway, it would be a slow start for everyone in the field. An opening lap caution for the spin by Timmy Hill (#94 Toyota) would put the field under yellow, while an oil leak for Jordan Anderson (#74 Chevy) red flagged the race at Lap 37.
Once the red flag was lifted, it was clean and green flag racing for much of the remainder of the race. Austin Dillon would lead the overwhelming majority of the race, though Busch and teammate Erik Jones (#4 Toyota) would challenge him throughout. However, Busch’s luck would turn with a tire rub late in the race that would force him to pit.
Winding down the end of the race, a caution for the spinning Tyler Reddick (#19 BBR Music Ford) would set up a ten-lap dash to the checkers. On the restart, the teammates from ThorSport of Matt Crafton (#88 Menards Toyota) and Johnny Sauter (#98 Nextant Aerospace Toyota) would fight Dillon for the lead, but lose the battle. Austin Dillon would win the UNOH 175 at NHMS, as the Camping World Truck Series celebrates 500 races.
As Dillon came across winning, Crafton would finish second, and Johnny Sauter in third. Meanwhile, Kyle Busch, who had to pit for a tire rub finished eleventh. The top finishing championship contender was Crafton in second, but points leader Erik Jones came home in seventh.
The race for the title in the Camping World Truck Series will continue on to Las Vegas next weekend in the Rhino Linings 350. Be sure to check out the Saturday night special on FS1.
