What to Watch for:  Stetson @ Drake

HOW THEY STACK UP

Stetson will come into Des Moines this season as a small underdog, after getting knocked by off by Mercer 57-14 on week two. Drake opened the season with a win over William Jewell, then narrowly suffered a defeat against North Dakota the week after. Drake lost starting quarterback Andy Rice and it showed against USD, losing 52-0.

THE LAST TIME OUT

Drake faced Stetson on the road in last season’s finale, winning 27-15 behind two rushing touchdowns and 189 yards passing by Drake QB Andy Rice.

PFL OPENER FOR DRAKE

For the Bulldogs, this will be the first conference game of the season, and they must step up to the challenge. New QB Cody Thibault will have to fill the shoes of injured starter Andy Rice, and Conley Wilkins may be called upon again if the offense is not moving.

NO RICE, NO REWARDS

When Andy Rice got injured during Drake’s matchup with North Dakota, it was clear that the Bulldogs would face some adversity in week three. However, the amount of adversity was riveting. Drake lost 52-0 and suddenly had an offense that could not move the ball against such a good defense. Rice has bruised ribs and is out indefinitely.

HUGUNIN PERFORMING YET AGAIN

It seems to be a normal occurrence, hearing, “Forced fumble on the play by John Hugunin,” when watching Drake Football. The All-PFL linebacker got another one against South Dakota last week and now has four in three games. He leads the nation in forced fumbles as well.
