The lawyer for the alleged accuser of the Patrick Kane case, Thomas J. Eoannou, met with media today to reveal that the results from his client’s rape kit had been tampered with.
According to Eoannou, his client’s mother discovered an empty, brown paper bag on the doorstep at her house that was believed to once hold evidence from a rape kit that was performed on the woman at Erie County Medical Center.
From Weird to Weirder in Kane Investigation
The bag was sent anonymously and was found when she had come home from work at 1:30 P.M Tuesday afternoon. Before the news conference, Eoannou passed around several photos of the bag to the members of the media who were reporting on the case. In those pictures, the accuser’s name, date of birth and initials of the ECMC nurse who performed the rape kit were included on the label of the bag.
Eoannou stated that the evidence inside the bag had been tampered and that he notified the District Attorney’s office. He later called for the need to “bring in FBI or state police to investigate” the breach in the handling of the DNA results. When concluding the conference, Eoannou had no comment on if Kane would be charged.
Patrick Kane’s attorney, Paul Cambria, held a press conference of his own just over an hour after Eoannou’s. He debunked any notion that there was a leak in information from his party and was pleased with the results of the DNA tests (which reportedly released that Kane’s DNA was NOT found below the victim’s waist).
Both Cambria and Eoannou believe their particular client is the victim in the ongoing case and Cambria said that his team had no reason to tamper with the evidence as it contributes to helping to prove Kane’s innocence.
In one final bombshell announcement, the Erie County Police Commissioner claimed that there had been no tampering of evidence and that the bag containing the rape kit and the kit itself were in the ECPD’s possession.
