MLS Pick ‘Em 2015: Week 30 – Toronto FC v. New England Revolution

MLS Pick ‘Em 2015: Week 30 – Toronto FC v. New England Revolution

Last week, FC Dallas ran all over Columbus and earned a big road point. Most of the editors here were at a loss thanks to the poor scheduling around the International break. With the results, the table tightens at the top as we draw closer to the playoffs. Jeff still leads all writers in picking the winners, but Russ is the king thanks to picking the scores for 15% of the games. That’s pretty darn good if you ask us. Here are the updated standings.

Player Points Correct Outcome Correct Score Bonus Incorrect Percentage
Russ McKenzie 28 18 5 0 14 56.25%
Joseph Goldstein 27 16 4 1 16 50.00%
Jeff Krause 25 19 3 0 13 59.38%
Alec Rivera 18 12 3 0 20 37.50%
Eric Walcott 17 17 0 0 15 53.13%
Ned Joyce 11 9 1 0 23 28.13%
John Richan 9 9 0 0 23 28.13%
Michael Norton 9 9 0 0 23 28.13%

This week, Toronto FC hosts the New England Revolution. The Revs have been on a tear over the last month, breaking their slump and winning 5 of their last 6. Toronto has had a bit of a rougher go during that same stretch, but are still nicely positioned to make the playoffs. A win against the Revs would bring them back into the conversation for hosting a playoff match. For the Revs, a win will put them on the edge of going first in the East depending on other weekend results. Let’s get to it. Here’s what the experts think:

Toronto getting blanked at home is going to wake up the under performing rich kids in the East. Without Giovinco I’m just not convinced. The result makes Wednesdays top of the East game in New England more interesting.

If Giovinco plays I could see TFC getting a draw, but the Revs are playing really well and they’ve got Jermaine Jones back. The Revs are nearly unbeatable with Jones in the lineup over the last two seasons, that won’t change this week.

With the major contributors on both sides having just endured a Brazilian onslaught (or some other international duty), the supporting casts will determine the outcome here. Lee Nguyen > High School Varsity D. Every time.

New England is just too tough, and TFC will struggle without Gio. Altidore may get a goal, but TFC will be lucky to get much more than that against a Revolution team hitting their stride at the right time.

Revs are the second hottest team in the East and they continue their streak. TFC simply can’t seem to win against teams with strong midfields.

Just when everything is looking good for TFC is often when they fall flattest. With a few players potentially missing out through injury or suspension the ‘Revs will take this one.

Draw (2-2) No Giovinco could kill TFC, but this is a huge fixture as these two are fighting one another (and Columbus) to host a wildcard playoff fixture. If Lee Nguyen can get shut down, points are possible.

Revolution are the hottest team in mls and will be firing on all cylinders at BMO. Torontos defense will collapse after 2 goals to complete the onslaught
