Manchester United striker James Wilson is set to join Derby County on loan, according to reports.
The 19-year-old has been heavily linked with a loan move to the Championship, despite being one of the few strikers left on the books at Old Trafford.
However, United boss Louis Van Gaal believes that allowing the England U21 international to move out on loan is the next stage in his development.
The Rams are not the only team said to be interested in Wilson, reports suggest that there have been over 20 enquiries for his services.
Wilson burst onto the scene in 2014, when he scored two goals on his debut against Hull City on the final day of the season at Old Trafford. He is highly regarded by the Red Devils, and despite not making a first team appearance so far this season, he is tipped for big things in Manchester.
Early season promotion favourites Derby County have endured a disappointing start to their campaign. Paul Clement’s side have yet to taste victory in their opening five fixtures. Goals seem to be an issue as well, with the team only managing to find the net four times.
Chris Martin, the club’s leading goal scorer for the past two seasons, has scored two goals so far but Clement will be keen to add more firepower to the team.
The early season performances from summer signings Darren Bent and Andreas Weimann has been a concern amongst supporters. Both have failed to score for the Rams this season, when they expected to hit the ground running.
Bent scored 12 goals for Derby in a highly successful loan spell from Aston Villa at the end of last season and was signed permanently by the club in the summer. Austrian international Weimann, also from Aston Villa, is thought to have cost £2 million.
With the international break over, Derby will be keen to get their season up and running, it looks likely that they will call upon Wilson to aid them in their efforts for promotion.
It is not clear how long the loan will last, however it is understood that there will be an immediate call-back clause in the deal.
The Rams face a trip to newly promoted Preston North End on Saturday, but it remains highly unlikely that the loan deal will be completed in time for Wilson to be included.
