Yoenis Cespedes Adds To The Mets Playoff Push

The New York Mets scrambled to find an outfielder who could hit in the middle of the order. And it seems that they found that player. Everyone from the fans to the Mets Organization believe Yoenis Cespedes adds to the Mets Playoff push. The New York Mets, originally thought they had their outfielder right before the July 31st non-waiver deadline. And it wasn’t Yoenis Cespedes, but rather outfielder Carlos Gomez, from the Milwaukee Brewers, in exchanged for Wilmer Flores, a utility player who had been with the New York Mets since he was sixteen years old. Thankfully for the Mets, the deal fell through and Carlos Gomez landed with the Houston Astros instead.

Before Yoenis Cespedes became a member of the Mets, they were 53-50, and two games out of first place. When Yoenis Cespedes arrived however, the New York Mets went from the lowest scoring team in MLB, to the highest scoring team. Since arriving, Yoenis Cespedes and the New York Mets have gone 25-11, and are leading the National League East by seven games with only twenty-three games remaining.

In thirty-seven games with the New York Mets, Yoenis Cespedes is batting .312, with fourteen Home Runs and thiry-six Runs Batted In. And if you count the numbers he put up with Detroit Tigers, then his Batting Average on the season is .298, with thirty-two Home Runs and ninety-seven Runs Batted In.

“When guys with this much talent get on these kinds of rolls it’s unbelievable,” Mets teammate Kelly Johnson told reporters. “It’s so much fun to watch it really does kind of remind you of some throwback player, like your dad used to tell you about Clemente or Mantle.”

Along with acquiring Cespedes, the New York Mets also made trades for infielders Kelly Johnson, as well as Juan Uribe, to add depth and to strengthen the middle of the order. Plus with the return of their Captain, David Wright, the Mets are poised to make a Playoff run for the first time in a while. And it all started with the acquisition of Yoenis Cespedes. Sometimes all it takes is one impact bat that can change the entire makeup of a team by altering the way opposing pitchers approach every hitter.
