MLS POWER RANKINGS 09 SEPTEMBER 2015

RANK TEAM COMMENTS Last 6 Previous Change
1

New York Red Bulls

The Red Bulls enjoyed their week off and remain number 1. Can’t ask for more than that, right? Next up they get a chance at revenge against the Chicago Fire. 4-1-1 1 0
2

LA Galaxy

The last time LA played they lost to San Jose, but their work over the last month has been more impressive than most of the teams on this list, hence the bump to 2. 4-2-0 3 +1
3

FC Dallas

Dallas went into Mapfre Stadium and absolutely bullied the Crew. They’ve got back to back shutout victories now. They can pick up a third at woeful NYCFC. 3-3-0 4 +1
4

New England Revolution

New England is currently the hottest team in the MLS. Unbeaten in 6 and winners of 4 straight. Interestingly, no team has been able to win more than 4 straight this year. Will New England be the first when they take on Toronto at BMO? 5-0-1 7 +3
5

Vancouver Whitecaps FC

Vancouver is another team that probably sighed with relief to get a break in the action after picking up just 3 points in their last 3 games. Colorado coming for a visit is a welcome sight at BC Place. 4-2-0 6 +1
6

San Jose Earthquakes

San Jose needs to forget about last weekend as soon as possible. No doubt the absence of Godoy hurt though. The game against the Sounders Saturday night could have big implications going forward. 4-2-0 2 -4
7

Sporting Kansas City

Kansas City must dread the road, especially out West. KC is tied for the second worst Away record against other Western teams. 0.63/game. Multiple losses in a row might just break what seems like a fragile team. 2-3-1 9 +2
8

Columbus Crew SC

Looked lost without Trapp. Probably didn’t help to lose Kei Kamara and newbie Harrison Afful. 3-2-1 5 -3
9

Seattle Sounders FC

Like New England (Only much later.) they lok to be out of the summer slump that consumed them. Squeaked out two consecutive 2-1 games against strong offenses. That’s a great sign for the Rave Green. 3-3-0 16 +7
10

Toronto FC

Just when you think you’ve got it together… Loss of Giovinco for any amount of time be deadly to Toronto’s playoff chances. 3-3-0 8 -2
11

D.C. United

D.C. is still reeling from their loss in Harrison. Colorado on Saturday night should be quite interesting. D.C. has been fading for quite some time, but they could put in the work to frustrate the Rapids. 3-3-0 10 -1
12

Colorado Rapids

Brutal stretch of 3 games in 10 days coming. Colorado may not be eliminated from the playoffs quite yet, but I’m not sure they win too many games down the stretch. 3-3-0 11 -1
13

Houston Dynamo

Prediction, in four weeks, the Dynamo will still be 2-2-2. I’ve chided them for their inconsistency in the past, but we have finally found it. They are just mediocre and are earning mediocre results. 2-2-2 12 -1
14

Portland Timbers

If Portland want to make the playoffs, they have two big games coming up. The first against SKC, the second at home to RBNY. SKC may be bad on the road, but in their previous meeting with the Timbers, they maintained a shutout, even if they could’t score. 2-2-2 13 -1
15

Philadelphia Union

Philly got a minor boost from a strong performance in SJ. I’m afraid that is about it for nice things to say about this team. In all honesty, there are some nice pieces on that team tat need more guidance. 2-2-2 18 +3
16

Montreal Impact

A back and forth affair saw the Impact come from behind in dramatic fashion and front man Didier Drogba had a sweet hat trick. Destiny is their hands now. 2-3-1 15 -1
17

Real Salt Lake

Might even deserve to be at the bottom of the table, but they have multiple wins in the last 30 days, so they stay put. Still, not a lot of good happening in the Rockies this year. 2-4-0 17 0
18

Chicago Fire

The Fire have had trouble hanging on to leads all year. Their loss to the Impact was just sloppy and lifeless. 1-3-2 14 -4
19

New York City FC

What’s the opposite of ticker tape parade? I asked but no one will tell me. Safe to say, whatever they call it, will be held in City’s honor. 1-4-1 20 +1
20

Orlando City SC

Orlando is now up to a total of 0 wins in the last 30 days. Things aren’t getting better in Orlando just yet. After a promising from May to June, the team has been a let down. 0-4-2 19 -1
