Curtis Glencross Signs PTO with the Toronto Maple Leafs

Unable to secure a guaranteed contract as a free agent this summer, right winger Curtis Glencross has signed a Professional Try Out contract (PTO) with the Toronto Maple Leafs and will attend the team’s training camp.

The 32-year-old Glencross is best known for his time with the Calgary Flames. He was traded to the Washington Capitals at the 2015 NHL trade deadline for a second and a third round draft pick. Glencross had 13 goals and 35 points between the two clubs last season, and has registered 134 goals and 275 points in 507 career NHL games. Glencross has hit double figures in goals in seven straight NHL seasons.  Used sparingly by the Capitals down the stretch and into the playoffs, he became an unrestricted free agent on July 1st.

Glencross also spent time with the Columbus Blue Jackets, Edmonton Oilers, and Anaheim Ducks earlier in his NHL career.

Glencross will be the second forward the Leafs have signed to a PTO, joining Devin Setogucchi in the attempt to make the team.

Rumors earlier in the week had suggested that Glencross would sign a PTO with the Colorado Avalanche, however he will instead be trying to make an impression on the Leafs new management team of general manager Lou Lamoriello and head coach Mike Babcock.  Babcock was the coach of the Ducks when Glencross was in Anaheim.
