Not surprisingly, there is news out of Ottawa this morning that the REDBLACKS sign Shawn Lemon.
The highly coveted defensive end was sought by no fewer than four CFL clubs. You have to know that Calgary fans, who got used to cheering on the high-motor pass rusher, are a bit disappointed hearing this news.
Originally on the Bombers practice roster in 2011, Lemon’s football odyssey has seen him with ten different teams in four leagues; the CFL, NFL, AFL, and IFL. After attempts to make both the Pittsburgh Steelers and the San Fransico 49’ers, he’s headed back up north.
His career CFL numbers over just three CFL seasons with the Riders, Eskimos, and Stampeders are impressive. Lemon, not to be confused with former Toronto Argonauts quarterback Cleo Lemon, has had 66 tackles of which 10 were tackles for a loss, 22 QB sacks, six forced fumbles, and three fumble recoveries.
It’s a timely signing as productive defensive end Aston Whiteside had been on the one game injured list. After receiving an unintentional graze of the head by offensive tackle Randy Richards of the Saskatchewan Roughriders, the REDBLACKS leading sack man fell awkwardly injuring his leg. Whiteside has now been placed on Ottawa’s six-game injured list.
