Last Word on Sports XTRA and LWOS Radio is proud to present their newest podcast, “At the Net” featuring Dave Gove and Ben Kerr. In LWOS tradition we strive to bring you, our audience, the best in sports news, opinion, and analysis and do it all while also bringing on guests who are amongst the biggest names in their sport. This show, featuring Beach Volleyball is no different, digging deep into the FIVB World Tour and all things Beach Volleyball.
Once again we saw Brazilian dominance on the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour. Alison and Bruno won the Men’s Gold Medal at the Olzstyn Grand Slam, while Talita and Larissa took home the women’s crown. We examine the results, as well as what they mean for the rest of the season and who has qualified for the season ending World Tour Finals in Fort Lauderdale.
For Teams not yet qualified for Fort Lauderdale, there is one more event, the Rio Open. 3 Women’s spots, and 2 Men’s spots are up for grabs for the big money Fight for the Fort. Perhaps more importantly though is the fact that the Rio Open is being played at Copacabana beach. This is a test event getting the facility ready to host the beach tournament at the 2016 Olympics. With that in mind, how important is winning or doing well at this year’s event for confidence next summer?
Lastly the boys look at Olympic Qualification. They take a look at the first two teams qualified for Rio, and also debate the merits of the two teams per country maximum rule that the FIVB and IOC have put in place. Are contenders missing out do to the rule, or does it help push the sport in other countries.
All this and more in this week’s edition of At the Net.
