Arsenal on Loan: Zelalem’s Rangers Stay Unbeaten

Zelalem's Rangers Stay Unbeaten with fifth consecutive victory in league play.

This season Last Word on Sports will be keeping you up to date on the Arsenal players out on loan, as they continue to develop their skills and prove they are ready to compete for a place in the Arsenal side. There are currently twelve players out on loan from Arsenal.

The players already away on loan are:

  • Wojciech Szczesny (GK), on loan to AS Roma in Serie A
  • Carl Jenkinson (RB), on loan to West Ham United in the Premier League
  • Yaya Sanogo (ST), on loan to Ajax in the Eredivisie
  • Serge Gnabry (MID), on loan to West Bromwich Albion in the Premier League
  • Ainsley Maitland-Niles (MID), on loan to Ipswich Town in the Championship
  • Isaac Hayden (CB/MID), on loan to Hull City in the Championship
  • Chuba Akpom (ST), on loan to Hull City in the Championship
  • Daniel Crowley (MID), on loan to Barnsley in League One
  • Jon Toral (MID), on loan to Birmingham City in the Championship
  • Emiliano Martinez (GK), on loan to Wolves in the Championship
  • Wellington Silva (MID), on loan to Bolton in the Championship
  • Gedion Zelalem (MID), on loan to Rangers in the Scottish Championship

With most of the top European leagues observing the break for European Championship Qualifiers and early World Cup Qualification, only two Gunners saw action away on loan this past week.

Dan Crowley started and played 70 minutes as Barnsley fell 2-1 to Shrewsbury Town. Crowley nearly evened the score 13 minutes in, bending a shot just over the bar. Barnsley fell to a stoppage time goal by former Tyke Jordan Clark.

Gedion Zelalem was the only other Gunner with club action over the weekend, as a 5-0 victory over Raith Rovers saw Zelalem’s Rangers stay unbeaten. The midfielder played 61 minutes as Rangers won their fifth consecutive match in league play. In a rare occurrence, Zelalem finished the game without an assist, though he was influential throughout his time on the pitch. Zelalem nearly scored his first goal for Rangers early in the match, then set up Tottenham loanee Nathan Oduwa for what should have been a goal, but was denied by the Raith goalkeeper.
