It’s CFL’s Christmas in September – Labour Day! With some major rivalries in play, and also Montreal playing B.C., we’re in for a huge weekend of football. Let the Week 11 CFL predictions commence.
B.C. Lions at Montreal Alouettes
Nick’s thoughts: After the Montreal Alouettes went into B.C. Place Stadium two weeks ago and walked away with a win, this game is Montreal’s to lose. The (hopefully) charged up crowd at Molson Stadium will get a chance to watch what their defence can do after dominating performances the past two weeks. If the Lions want to win this game, Andrew Harris will need to get a lot of touches, or else Travis Lulay WILL get hit hard and picked off often.
Matthew Bin: B.C. 22 – Montreal 25
Nicholas di Giovanni: B.C. 11 – Montreal 29
Lance Keiser: B.C. 17 – Montreal 28
Gina Schiltz: B.C. 25 – Montreal 27
Winnipeg Blue Bombers at Saskatchewan Roughriders
Lance’s thoughts: Winnipeg has not won in Regina in over 10 years on Labour Day, the 2015 version of the Labour Day Classic could be their best chance since their last win. Saskatchewan is reeling after a disastrous game in Ottawa, the after math of that loss is still being felt in the land of the living skies. Both GM brendan Taman and Head Coach Corey Chamblin were left unemployed. Expect the decisions after that to light a fire under the Riders, Winnipeg was humiliated last week against Calgary. Saskatchewan will get their first win this week, Rider Nation will be getting ready for a parade when the clocks strike 0.
Matthew Bin: Winnipeg 11 – Saskatchewan 19
Nicholas di Giovanni: Winnipeg 11 – Saskatchewan 10
Lance Keiser: Winnipeg 22 – Saskatchewan 29
Gina Schiltz: Winnipeg 21 – Saskatchewan 20
Toronto Argonauts at Hamilton Tiger-Cats
Matt’s thoughts: The Hamilton-Toronto Labour Day tilt is steeped in lore and soaked in emotion.. Despite their lower stature as a city, and despite their frequent years of football hardship, Hamilton fans know that they’ve held the edge on Labour Day Classic wins for decades. This year, despite their recent spate of injuries, Hamilton will expect to set up a strong finish to an already successful season.
Matthew Bin: Toronto 17 – Hamilton 39
Nicholas di Giovanni: Toronto 21 – Hamilton 25
Lance Keiser: Toronto 24 – Hamilton 22
Gina Schiltz: Toronto 30 – Hamilton 34
Edmonton Eskimos at Calgary Stampeders
Gina’s thoughts: Calgary has swept the past few years. Will this year be different? Undoubtedly, Edmonton is a much stronger team, their defence is arguably the top of the league. James Franklin was great in his first start and has found a favourite target in Darel Walker – among others. Calgary on the other hand has come off a couple of definitive wins and is finally looking like the Grey Cup Champions they were last year. Bo Levi Mitchell is at the top of his performance level, and with Eric Rogers, Jeff Fuller and Marquay McDaniel as targets, his only problem is choosing which receiver. This game will come down to defence. Edmonton has it and last week Calgary showed they can have it. Monday’s game will go to the home team.
Matthew Bin: Edmonton 20 – Calgary 30
Nicholas di Giovanni: Edmonton 22 – Calgary 23
Lance Keiser: Edmonton 19 – Calgary 33
Gina Schiltz: Edmonton 34 – Calgary 38
