Heung-Min Son signs for Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham have announced the signing of South Korean international Heung-Min Son from Bayer Leverkusen subject to international clearance and a work permit. The wide forward signs a contract untill 2020 with The Lilywhites and gives a much needed boost to Tottenham’s attacking options. The fee is rumoured to be around £18m.

Already a proven international at the age of 23, Son has scored 11 goals in 44 games for his country and is a star in South Korea. He joins from German outfit Bayern Leverkusen, where he scored 29 goals in 87 appearances helping them to back to back Champions League qualifications.

The deadly forward is known for his clinical finishing ability with both feet and his hard working attitude. He has been quoted as having “no favourite position” and “I’ll be anywhere and always on the throttle”, characteristics that will quickly lead to him becoming a favourite at White Hart Lane. Son was mostly utilised out wide on the left hand side for Leverkusen but can also play as a second striker or up front on his own with success – something Tottenham fans have been hoping for with the lack of depth and rotation for last season’s star man Harry Kane. This will also allow Pochettino to play two up front if he feels it necessary and injects some much needed pace into Spurs’ side which will certainly make them more of a threat going forward.

It is yet to see what effect this has on Tottenham’s aim of signing Saido Berahino from West Bromwich Albion, with many sources reporting Tottenham were reluctant to make a third bid based on The Baggies’ asking price which is considered to be around £30m so Son may prove to be the alternative option to the young English forward.

He joins Clinton N’jie, Toby Alderweireld, Kieran Trippier and Kevin Wimmer as Tottenham’s summer acquisitions
