Has the CFL finally settled on an even keel? Have the teams finally sorted out the pecking order? Has Saskatchewan finally won a game? Well, two out of three ain’t bad. Here are the Week 10 CFL predictions from the LWOS panel of CFL experts.
Montreal Alouettes at Hamilton Tiger-Cats
Nick’s thoughts: After a surprise road win in B.C. last week followed by the firing of their head coach, Tom Higgins, the Alouettes are in dire trouble this week. The Tiger-Cats have had their number for the past few seasons and are still undefeated at Tim Hortons Field. The number one team in the league will certainly dominate their guests and Rakeem Cato can do nothing about it but try to play conservative and throw as few turnovers as possible.
Kelly Bale: Montreal 17 – Hamilton 39
Matthew Bin: Montreal 5 – Hamilton 40
Nicholas di Giovanni: Montreal 9 – Hamilton 31
Lance Keiser: Montreal 19 – Hamilton 28
Gina Schiltz: Montreal 33 – Hamilton 42
Toronto Argonauts at Edmonton Eskimos
Matt’s thoughts: Edmonton is a good team (and a great defence) with a tendency to underperform; Toronto is a dodgy team with a tendency to pull out wins. No one would put Toronto on the same level as the surging Hamilton, but the teams are tied atop the East. With Edmonton at home and looking to salvage some pride after their mauling at the hands of the Tiger-Cats last week, the Eskimos will step up and do what it takes to pull out the win, even against the competitive Argonauts.
Kelly Bale: Toronto 31 – Edmonton 34
Matthew Bin: Toronto 21 – Edmonton 24
Nicholas di Giovanni: Toronto 17 – Edmonton 15
Lance Keiser: Toronto 29 – Edmonton 24
Gina Schiltz: Toronto 28 – Edmonton 30
Calgary Stampeders at Winnipeg Blue Bombers
Gina’s thoughts: Calgary played well last week against Saskatchewan – and claimed sole possession of first in the west. Calgary’s run game has also found its footing again in Matt Walter, who had a 100-yard game. Winnipeg, on the other hand, has struggled with consistency lately. Marve will start again for the Bombers; the bye week last week will have given the quarterback a chance to work out the kinks. Winnipeg is tied for third with BC. A win would help solidify that spot and having home field advantage does have its merits, but I don’t see them coming out with the victory.
Kelly Bale: Calgary 42 – Winnipeg 20
Matthew Bin: Calgary 34 – Winnipeg 13
Nicholas di Giovanni: Calgary 28 – Winnipeg 1
Lance Keiser: Calgary 27 – Winnipeg 21
Gina Schiltz: Calgary 38 – Winnipeg 20
Saskatchewan Roughriders at Ottawa Redblacks
Lance’s thoughts: The Saskatchewan Roughriders will be in Ottawa in a matchup that does not work well for the Redblacks. Burris is coming off a monster game in which Ottawa still managed to give away a win to Toronto. For Saskatchewan to get the elusive first win of the season, expect to see a lot more of Canadian RB Jerome Messam. The big bruising back will have a massive game in Ottawa, putting his team on his back and carrying them to their first win of 2015.
Kelly Bale: Saskatchewan 26 – Ottawa 30
Matthew Bin: Saskatchewan 16 – Ottawa 21
Nicholas di Giovanni: Saskatchewan 30 – Ottawa 31
Lance Keiser: Saskatchewan 27 – Ottawa 20
Gina Schiltz: Saskatchewan 25 – Ottawa 27
Week 9 Roundup
Everyone thought the Hamilton-Edmonton and Calgary-Saskatchewan games would be a lot closer, but almost no one got those picks wrong. Nick and Lance rode the easy-to-call week to even records, and Matt and Mike ended up with only one incorrect pick each. But Kelly and Gina topped the table in Week 9 with perfect 4-0 records.
What about you? Think you can do as well or better? Leave your picks in the comments and we’ll see how you stack up against the LWOS experts!
