Report: Jason Pierre-Paul will report to the Giants shortly

Jason Pierre-Paul in 2015 has been franchise tagged by the Giants.

Its been a busy off-season for Jason Pierre-Paul. The New York Giants slapped the franchise tag on the free agent defensive end, and the two sides were unable to come to an agreement on a long term contract. On the fourth of July, a fireworks accident cost him part of his fingers. Now he’s finally ready to sign his franchise tender and show up at Giants camp.

According to Ian Rappoport, Jason Pierre-Paul is expected to report soon.

Jason Pierre-Paul will report to the Giants shortly

Jason Pierre-Paul will take his 42 career sacks back to the team. The 15th overall pick in the 2010 draft can destroy an offensive game plan and make the best tackles look slow. His ability to slide inside to play the run adds to his strengths. His pass rushing talent is well documented and top tier. It will be interesting to see if the hand injury has any effect on his ability on the field though.

Pierre-Paul recorded 12.5 sacks last year after only 6 the season before. He also added 54 solo tackles and 3 forced fumbles in 2014. Those numbers are slightly down from being hurt, playing hurt and a lack of overall defensive production around him. With a good secondary and decent linebackers, Pierre-Paul has the potential to be a bright light in the dirty trenches of the defensive line.

Pierre-Paul had surgery prior to the 2013 season to prepare him for week one. It worked and he started the year. However he missed the last 5 games of that year with a shoulder injury. He returned and started all 16 games in 2014 yet his injury history will be noted.

His speed and athleticism are a match-up nightmare. He will continue his quarterback crushing ways with his new contract. JPP will be causing offensive tackles and quarterbacks migraine headaches for years to come.
