During Sunday afternoon’s early game between the Green Bay Packers, Jordy Nelson is reported to have suffered a torn ACL. It was on the first drive of the game as he landed awkwardly after making a short catch before going down with no contact from any Steelers defender.
Report: Jordy Nelson Suffers Torn ACL, Likely Out for Season
The Packers are still awaiting an MRI, which will show whether he is out for the season or not. Any damage to the anterior cruciate ligament generally takes a minimum of six months to heal.
Nelson was one of the league’s best receivers in 2014, and led the Packers with 98 receptions for a total of 1,519 yards with 13 touchdowns. His absence, as the Packers’ best receiver will be greatly missed. He is the team’s best deep threat and can also read defenders and make the short reception when needed.
This adds to the necessity of Randall Cobb, Davante Adams and Jeff Janis, who are now the top three receivers on the team. Adams was set to start on the outside across from Nelson, while Cobb would have alternated between slot and outside, as needed. The Packers could look to free agent Reggie Wayne (who is currently visiting with the New England Patriots), but at his age he is no Jordy Nelson.
