BTCC Knockhill Preview

With just a short 10 day break since the last meeting in Snetterton, BTCC returns once again this weekend with standings really heating up for championship with just four race meetings to go.

As well as good racing Snetterton also saw a slight twist in the championship as leader going into the weekend Gordon Shedden had a weekend to forget only achieving 14th in race 1, a DNF in race 2 after contact and had to make a long pit stop in race 3 whilst the car had mechanical issues. This leaves him third in the championship standings 32 points of the lead going into his home race at Knockhill.

In contrasting fortunes Colin Turkington had his best weekend of the campaign after claiming two wins from two and getting a seventh in the third and final race which may not of been as strong a result as he was hoping for but still gained him solid points and left him second in the championship – just 16 points off team mate Jason Plato. Plato also had a solid weekend gaining the championship lead with a third, a fourth and a second and is laying down a marker for everyone else in the field proving he will be difficult to beat over the final months.

Last season, Knockhill was the scene of lots drama between the two now team mates Plato and Turkington when the former made an extremely aggressive move which took Turkington out the race, which could have dented his title charge had it not been for the drive of the season in race two when Turkington managed to go from the back of the grid to fourth then claimed a third in race 3 keeping his championship alive. The BMWs and the Hondas should be stronger than BMRs on this circuit so this is their best opportunity to fight back in the title race? Will Gordon Shedden fight back to be in the title race? Will Plato extend the lead? Or can Colin Turkington gain the championship lead?
