What Will the UFC do About Anthony Johnson

Nothing is probably the answer.

For a while Anthony “Rumble” Johnson was able to keep his “killah” on fight night and “nice guy” outside of the cage facade up. This despite the better efforts of Sydnie Jones who has pointed out the hypocritical nature of the UFC still employing the fighter who has been convicted of domestic violence. It makes you wonder what their definition of “zero tolerance” is because it is apparently different from the rest of us.

I recommend that you check out Jones’ work on this topic here. She does an excellent job of highlighting the UFC’s continuing to enable Johnson’s troubling behavior towards women. Despite him trying to be on his best behavior Johnson once again finds himself embroiled in controversy.

This latest incident involves Johnson posting his side of an interaction with a woman at the gym.

Now Johnson is following “Stupid Guy’s Guide to Social Media” almost to the letter. First, he posted something stupid, then he took it down (as if that makes it disappear) but to make sure you have not forgotten about it he also defended himself on Twitter.

He also wants you to know he does not really care about your opinion.

It makes you wonder why took down the Facebook at all. Except we all know he took it down because he was advised to do it.

The scariest elements about this is that Johnson once again seems to think that he did nothing wrong here. He posted the rant precisely because he thought he had been wronged and was actually looking for sympathy.

I know it is hard to picture Johnson as the victim, but then again you do not know how scary a woman with a yoga mat really is until she is stretching next you, while you are trying to lift. Of course Johnson had no other recourse but to throw the woman’s yoga mat. It is what any child on the playground would do without any adult supervision.

The UFC has said nothing on this and probably will not do anything. Johnson is a fighter who makes money for the UFC. They like his exciting KO style and seem to be willing to excuse his public behavior to make sure he keeps fighting for them.

I do not want to blow this incident up but it is a part of a pattern of disturbing behavior from Johnson when it comes to women. It shows that he is easily angered by them and willing to go beyond just verbal abuse. While he did not lay hands on this woman this time, there have been cases in the past including his previous conviction.

You would think that a fighter who has been in trouble for abusing women in the past would stay away from publicly comparing one to a “bag of dog food”, but Johnson seems to be oblivious. It could be because there have been very few repercussions on his career from these troubling incidents. The UFC looks to be ignoring this latest one maybe hoping that it will all just go away like a bad dream.
