Harlequins announce squad for Singha 7s qualifying round at the Ricoh Arena
Harlequins has announced their squad to compete in Group C of the Singha Premiership Rugby 7s at the Ricoh Arena on Friday 21st August, kick-off 19:00.
Joe Marchant is called up as captain after putting in a player of the round performance in last year’s qualifiers at Franklin’s Gardens.
New Academy members Archie White, Sam Aspland-Robinson, Calum Waters and Robbie Nairn will get their first taste of competitive action since joining the Club alongside second year members Henry Cheeseman, Kieran Treadwell and Marchant. Gabriel Ibitoye is included in the squad from Harlequins’ Elite Player Development Group (EPDG) along with fellow EPDG member Dino Lamb-Cona who is currently studying at Cranleigh School.
Fijians Senitiki Nayalo and Alosio Yamoyamo re-join the squad after playing in last year’s Premiership Rugby and World Club 7s for the Club.
Nayalo is currently serving with the 7th Parachute Regt Royal Horse Artillery who kindly agreed to release him for the tournament and Yamoyamo currently plays for the renowned international 7s team White Hart Marauders.
Fly-half Luke White has recently left Bromsgrove School and is currently training with the full time squad.
Academy coach Howard Graham said: “It is great for the young guys to get experience. We need to keep up the momentum of pre-season and we will balance that with the 7s. We will have a lot of young boys who will put in a good performance on the park.
“Joe Marchant last year was still at school and got player of the tournament and he has been rewarded with the captaincy this year. I am looking forward to the competition and to seeing the boys play 7s, it shows how good a rugby player they are at heart.”
