Bullied But Not Broken: Ronda Rousey Battles Bullying For Charity

The parallels between MMA and bullying are strangely ironic yet vastly different. In fighting it quite literally pays to be the bully. One looks to both mentally and physically gain an edge over his opponent through inflicting both mental and physical punishment in hopes of beating him/her into a declaration of defeat, and thus basking in the spoils of victory. The same might be said for bullying; however, outside the cage, there are no spoils, no victors.

Be it hardcore MMA fan or casual observer, Ronda Rousey, to most, is known as the most dominant female athlete on the planet. Undefeated in MMA, a bona fide crossover star, and a 2008 Olympic Bronze Medalist in Judo, Rousey has made a name for herself as a confident and dominant female and athlete, who along the way has broken down barriers for women in sports. It may thus come as a surprise to some that, as a child, she herself was a victim of bullying.

In an effort to increase awareness on the issue, Rousey sat down recently with bully victim, teen activist and founder of Bullied But Not Broken Charity, Claire Tietgen, opening up about the emotional impact the UFC Bantamweight Champion faced at the hands of bullies, and offering advice on how she was able to overcome.
