Fantasy Profile: Danny Woodhead, RB, San Diego Chargers
In 2013, San Diego starting running back Ryan Mathews played in all 16 games, even so Danny Woodhead was able to accumulate 106 carries for 429 yards, 76 receptions for 605 yards, and eight total touchdowns. Those numbers were good enough for the #19 spot in the year end fantasy rankings for standard formats; his receptions boosted him to #16 in PPR formats.
Mathews was a high draft pick who San Diego invested a great deal in order to trade up in the draft to select in 2010, so people who expect Melvin Gordon to be a road block to Woodhead’s productivity obviously do not know how good he is. Gordon has already shown he is lacking skills in pass blocking and receiving, so Woodhead will be able to provide you with a great value pick late in your drafts.
