Fantasy Profile: Sammy Watkins, wide receiver, Buffalo Bills
Sammy Watkins is an immensely talented wide receiver, but I feel he is being over drafted in fantasy leagues in 2015. A strong rookie season of 65 receptions, 982 yards and six touchdowns should lead to some growth in year two, but there are some big concerns with uncertainty at quarterback, the addition of a workhorse running back (LeSean McCoy), and a new head coach who favors low scoring, run-first offensive schemes (Rex Ryan).
As bad as quarterback Kyle Orton was, he is a superior passer to any of the three options Buffalo will employ this season in Matt Cassell, E.J. Manuel, and Tyrod Taylor. I am not ready to write off Watkins completely, but there is a good chance I will not own him in any league so long as his ADP remains in its current range in the late fourth or early fifth round of most drafts. He’s got talent, but the quarterback uncertainty in Buffalo is just too big of an issue for that high of a pick.
