Remaining NBA Free agents: Hello, Is there anybody out there?

We are currently 42 days into the NBA Free agency period. And it has been without doubt a very interesting time. Big names such as LaMarcus Aldridge, Rajon Rondo and Monta Ellis have all found new homes this off-season. And it also appears that money is no longer an object to most GM’s in the NBA, with players like guard Reggie Jackson and center Enes Kanter considered to have been vastly over paid this summer. But the off-season fun doesn’t stop anytime soon, with a number of players still on the open market.

Remaining NBA Free agents: Hello, Is there anybody out there?

The first player on the list is veteran Carlos Boozer. The 33-year-old power forward has in the past been a very solid contributor, and I think he can still do job for a team looking for a solid veteran big man to come off the bench. Most recently Boozer has played for the LA Lakers, Chicago Bulls and the Utah Jazz. But most teams will be looking at his work in LA; Boozer averaged 11.8 points and 6.8 rebounds per game last season with the Lakers. In my mind these are more than solid numbers. I see Boozer being in a similar situation to fellow veteran forward David West. West took less money to play in San Antonio, but he does have a serious chance at winning a title. Boozer is in a very similar boat that sadly is slowly sinking. Boozer will get his chance I’m sure, he’s just too good of player not to end up playing ball next season.

Next up is Glen “Big baby” Davis. Davis (29) is a very unique player in the league. A player who plays slightly larger than others, Davis uses his strength in the paint to either snag rebounds or to score a sneaky 4 to 5 points a game. This is a very valuable asset. Plus there will definitely be a team out there somewhere that will give Glen Davis another chance in the NBA. Davis’s disciplinary record is definitely shaky to say the least, but there are players who have done worse who are still playing in the NBA. Glen Davis averaged just 4 points and 2.3 rebounds per game last season, still okay numbers for a bench player. I guarantee you will see the larger than life Glen “Big baby” Davis on the court next season.

The final player we look at is an NBA champion, a potential hall of famer and one of my favourite players over the last 10 years of watching basketball. That player is veteran guard Jason Terry. Terry (37) is Mr Reliable, and a player that I cannot understand why he doesn’t have a team. Obliviously Terry will only sign a one year deal like all the players on my list, but still why the likes of Houston or Sacramento haven’t signed Terry yet really does confuse my sports filled mind. Jason “The Jet” Terry is a 16-year-veteran in the NBA, and is exactly the sort of player teams should be trying to sign. Some NBA fans don’t understand how valuable a veteran player like Terry is. He provides solid defense, 7 points per game and is basically an on court coach. Now tell me that he isn’t the sort of player you would want on your team.

Honourable Mentions: Guard – Norris Cole (26), Small Forward – Landry Fields (27) and Forward/Center – Chuck Hayes (32).
