‘Here We Go Again’ For Saint Louis FC In 3-1 Loss
The match began positively for the home team. They came out very aggressive, seeing most of the ball and creating chances. Forward Jordon Roberts got just his second start of the season up top and was very active. He was ruled offsides on several occasions, but continued to test and challenge the backline.
FC Montreal looked to sit back and counter at first. Their wide players did well to spread the field and provide an outlet when their team got the ball. From there, they were able to get the ball to the top of the box for shot attempts. Center backs James Musa and Sam Fink stymied these attempts.
The half ended 0-0 with the teams level on performance.
Saint Louis FC again came out firing at the start of play. They had three corners early on in the half. Nick Bibbs and Mike Ambersley combined well together on the right flank. Musa had the best chance but was unable to convert.
With Saint Louis FC taking momentum, FC Montreal won the ball in the midfield, started a quick counter attack, and Jacques Haman scored. The goal was recorded in the 53rd minute.
After the goal, the narrative changed. Montreal immediately settled down and starting dominating possession and having the majority of the chances. The Chupacabras started making substitutions to try and shake things up, bringing on Jamiel Hardware and Kingsley Bryce.
The match ended with a flurry of goals. In the 85th minute, Saint Louis was pushing for an equalizer. Trying to force the issue, Hardware gave up a turnover in the defensive third. Montreal acted quickly and Fabio Morelli doubled the advantage.
Just two minutes later, the backline would have a miscue on a long ball. Goalkeeper Alec Kann came off his line, but Yacine Ait-Slimane was able to finish the play to make it 3-0 FC Montreal.
In the 89th minute, Hardware would get separation on a corner and headed the ball into the net to make it 3-1.
In stoppage time, a rough foul by Emad Houcache on Jacob Bushue lead to a scrum. Bushue, Houcache, and Nick Bibbs were sent off with straight red cards. The match ended 3-1 FC Montreal.
Bibbs and Bushue will be unavailable for Saint Louis FC’s match next weekend in Charlotte. Charles Renken was unavailable for this match due to yellow card accumulation, but will be available again on Saturday. Kick off is set for 6:30 PM CST.
