LAST TIME OUT: Saint Louis FC suffered a heartbreaking 2-1 loss to New York Red Bulls II in Hanover, N.J., last Sunday. Bryan Ciesiulka tied the game at 1-1 with his first goal of the season in the 72nd minute, but substitute Franklin Castellanos scored the game-winner in second-half stoppage time to lift New York to victory.
THE OPPONENT: FC Montréal scored three goals in the opening 21 minutes en route to a 4-0 victory at Louisville City FC on Wednesday night. Montréal has lost just once in its last six games (4-1-1), and has scored four goals or more in three of its four victories during that span. FC Montréal will be playing its fifth consecutive road game on Saturday at Marshall Wireless Stadium.
THE SERIES: STL FC suffered a 5-2 loss to FC Montréal in the teams’ first meeting at Stade Saputo on July 15. After James Musa put Saint Louis FC ahead 1-0 in the 5th minute, Montréal scored four unanswered goals to cruise to victory. The five goals allowed is a season-high for Saint Louis.
SUSPENDED PLAYERS: Both teams will be short a player on Saturday due to suspension. Montréal’s Charles Joly, who scored a hat trick against Saint Louis FC in the teams’ first meeting, will be serving a two-game suspension after he was sent off during the team’s 0-0 draw against Charleston Battery on August 1. For Saint Louis FC, Charles Renken will be forced to sit out due to yellow card accumulation.
