Press Release: Tickets For Troops at the Singha 7s

Wasps and Tickets For Troops have teamed up to offer members of the armed forces the chance to watch the Group C qualifiers of the Singha Premiership Rugby 7s Series on 21 August for free.

Tickets For Troops is a charity that was set up in 2009 to provide free tickets to members of the armed forces, or those medically discharged since 2001, for events ranging from sport, to theatre and music.

The Ricoh Arena in Coventry will play host to servicemen and women on 21 August, when Wasps, Harlequins, Northampton Saints and Saracens fight it out for two places in the Singha Premiership Rugby 7s Series Final at the Twickenham Stoop.

Members of the armed forces can register for complimentary tickets by visiting www.ticketsfortroops.org.uk/.

“Rugby and the armed forces have a really strong relationship. The players like to get involved as well, and it’s a nice way for the clubs to show their support,” said Rob Lupton, account manager at Tickets For Troops.

“The guys don’t get much of a chance to do this sort of thing when they’re home so going to the Singha Premiership Rugby 7s is something to look forward to and it’s a terrific way to kick off the rugby season.

“The Premiership Rugby players love playing in front of the people that are out there protecting them. It’s a really strong link and it’s great that we are able to continue that.”

Twelve months before rugby returns to the Olympics – in Rio – Premiership Rugby continues to lead the way when it comes to club 7s. The Singha Premiership Rugby 7s will be an important competition and will start a run-in to the 2016 Olympic Games when rugby will be firmly in the world spotlight.

This year’s edition will be the first time that the Ricoh Arena hosts a leg – and Lupton is expecting attending armed forces personnel to help create a fun, family event.

“Rugby fans are known for being pretty loud but the armed forces know how to have a good time as well and it should create a wonderful atmosphere,” added Lupton.

“The 7s is a great thing for members of the armed forces to do when they’re home from tour, and to take their families to.

“Wasps have been really generous in the past and given us tickets for a few years now. The Singha 7s tickets are going really fast, so get them while you can.”

The Singha Premiership Rugby 7s Series is the only 7s competition where you can see all 12 Premiership Rugby clubs competing against each other and taking on the four Welsh Regions.
