Sports. Honestly. Since 2011

The Champ is here and it’s going to be Antonio Cesaro

“THE CHAMP IS HERE” has become synonymous in recent times with the phrase…”YOU WANT SOME?  COME GET SOME”.  The likes of Kevin Owens, Neville, Sammi Zayn and Antonio Cesaro have got some.

The US Open Challenge has been an undeniable hit.  Every Monday night John Cena has gone toe to toe with some great new talents and has also managed to out them across even by beating them.  The Open Challenge has lead to one of the best series of matches we have had this year which all came to a head at WWE’s latest PPV: Battleground.

John Cena beat Kevin Owens.  Cena won the rubber match and defended his championship.  It was a decision that surprised me greatly.  I was almost certain Kevin Owens had the title in his hands.  It made sense, John Cena managed to put the Championship on the map again and Owens was the right person.  He wouldn’t have dwindled under the weight that the Championship now has, he is more than experienced enough to carry it through and keep it relevant – plus he is talented enough.

“The greatest object a ‘Booker’ can use is an eraser: a rubber on the end of a pencil”

So why did they give John Cena the win? The way I see it is that a loss wouldn’t have hurt John Cena at all and there really isn’t many other superstars that need to be put over under the guise of the US Open Challenge.

I can only find one answer…Antonio Cesaro.

I know one of Jim Ross’ greatest pieces of Wrestling Theory is that the greatest object a ‘Booker’ can use is an eraser: a rubber on the end of a pencil – and I really feel that WWE executed that theory perfectly relating to this program.

When Cesaro came to answer the challenge a few weeks ago on Monday Night Raw I think he made everyone look up and take note.  His performances since he answered the US Open Challenge have been the very best on the card – the Swiss Superman is simply superb.  So why not give the belt to him?  I can believe that Cesaro winning the Championship would sit more comfortably than Kevin Owens winning it on Monday Night Raw with the WWE Universe – for Cesaro it doesn’t need to be on a PPV.

Lets face it, if Tyson Kidd hadn’t have injured his neck which sadly put the stoppers on the Tag Team partnership of ,Kidd and Cesaro’ EU would undoubtedly be at the top of the card in that division, battling and feuding with The New Day and the Prime Time Players. Cesaro and Kidd have been a massive part of putting the Tag Team division back on the map, and their skills in the ring was plain to see – oddly enough not just as a team.  What made the pair so stand-out is that you could see how individually brilliant they both were also and how they managed to bring the best out of each other. Looking at the role of the U.S. Championship win the company at the moment I really believe that Cesaro will help put guys over as much as John Cena has – because he is as talented in the ring as anybody.

So SummerSlam is coming up like a steamtrain and the last episode of RAW only seemed to solidify my thoughts on this matter as it seems that John Cena is going to be challenging Seth Rollins for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship – so what of the US Championship? Surely it will not be a Champion vs. Champion match because I see very little sense in them giving two titles to one of Seth Rollins or John Cena.

The options this Fantasy Booking gives us are this:  We will get a program of Kevin Owens vs. Cesaro, Rusev vs. Cesaro or three match-ups using all of these superstars…maybe Dolph Ziggler will get a look in too?

I don’t about you…but that program makes me pretty excited.
