Victorino, 34, is batting .245/.324/.298 with one home run and five stolen bases in 33 games this season. He’s had major injury issues over the last two seasons, but was a major part of the Red Sox run to the World Series in 2013. Vicorino is a career .276/.341./428 hitter. The Angels are hoping he can provide some winning experience and extra outfield depth to the team for the stretch run.
Rutledge, 26, is a utility middle infielder. He was brought over from the Colorado Rockies this off-season and had hit .259/.308/.403 with 19 home runs in 266 games for the Colorado Rockies in the last three years. However, he failed to make the Angels roster out of spring training and has been stuck in the minors all season long.
After making the move, the Red Sox recalled Rusney Castillo from their minor league affiliate in Pawtucket. Castillo hit just .230/.260/.544 with one home run and one stolen base in 26 games earlier this season, but the 28-year-old is expected to be given another chance to be the Sox everyday right fielder down the stretch.
