CFL Predictions Week 4

The LWOS Canadian Football crew are back with their CFL predictions for week 4. Another hairy week of close games, last-minute lead changes, and come-from-behind upsets? Well, it’s the CFL. So… yeah.

CFL Predictions Week 4

Hamilton Tiger-Cats at Montreal Alouettes

Connor’s thoughts: Rakeem Cato and the Alouettes will try to avenge last week’s one-possession loss to Winnipeg as Montreal welcomes the Tiger-Cats.  Hamilton beat Winnipeg on the road by 26, so Montreal might need some luck to overcome last season’s Grey Cup runners-up.

Kelly Bale: Hamilton 37 – Montreal 28
Matt Bin: Hamilton 31 – Montreal 13
Matt Crockett: Hamilton 23 – Montreal 14
Nicholas di Giovanni: Hamilton 25 – Montreal 21
Connor Ferguson: Hamilton 32 – Montreal 20
Lance Keiser: Hamilton 34 – Montreal 20
Gina Schiltz: Hamilton 32 – Montreal 27

Ottawa Redblacks at Edmonton Eskimos

Mike’s thoughts: Jekyll and Hyde is the story for both teams heading into this week’s matchup to complete the home and home series. Edmonton looked Hyde-like losing to Toronto but seemed like evil geniuses against Ottawa with a 46-17 mugging of the Redblacks lead by a stingy defense and a rusty but confident Matt Nichols. Meanwhile, Ottawa had great chemistry starting the season 2-0 but must have drowned in the concoction of press clippings; last week they looked more like the expansion version of 2014. They beat themselves repeatedly in all phases of the game. Ottawa has been a stubborn opponent since their return to the league, but Edmonton has won all three meetings, outscoring the Redblacks 83-36. Edmonton’s monster defence will dictate Ottawa’s offensive future just like last game.

Kelly Bale: Ottawa 29 – Edmonton 37
Matt Bin: Ottawa 20 – Edmonton 26
Matt Crockett: Ottawa 26 – Edmonton 45
Nicholas di Giovanni: Ottawa 19 – Edmonton 16
Connor Ferguson: Ottawa 21 – Edmonton 42
Lance Keiser: Ottawa 18 – Edmonton 28
Gina Schiltz: Ottawa 24 – Edmonton 35

B.C. Lions at Saskatchewan Roughriders

Matt C’s thoughts: Well here we go!  Rematch time for these two teams.  The Riders are sitting three games into the season with no wins. The Lions are one and one now. This game will be a hard fought match, with two teams that are lacking consistency on both sides of the field. So look for a high-scoring, tightly-matched game. Lulay can secure the win if he continues on the pace from the 3rd and 4th quarters last week. Saskatchewan defenders will need to be all over Lulay, taking away his time and space.

Kelly Bale: B.C. 31 – Saskatchewan 28
Matt Bin: B.C. 20 – Saskatchewan 12
Matt Crockett: B.C. 35 – Saskatchewan 27
Nicholas di Giovanni: B.C. 37 – Saskatchewan 12
Connor Ferguson: B.C. 31 – Saskatchewan 38
Lance Keiser: B.C. 27 – Saskatchewan 31
Gina Schiltz: B.C. 34 – Saskatchewan 29

Winnipeg Blue Bombers at Calgary Stampeders

Gina’s thoughts: Despite the ongoing flag plague across the entire league, particular Calgary’s game last week against Toronto, Calgary looked much stronger in all three facets of the game. Offensively, Bo Levi Mitchell connected better with his receivers; the defence was strong with interceptions and knockdowns; and Rob Maver continues to be a punting beast. With Drew Willy back to work after an injury, and an impressive win over Montreal, Winnipeg is at the top in the West standings with most points scored. This is going to be a good game. Regardless of concerns about injuries on Calgary’s O-line, in particular Harrison and Federkeil, Calgary’s still the stronger team overall, but it will be close.

Kelly Bale: Winnipeg 30 – Calgary 36
Matt Bin: Winnipeg 21 – Calgary 23
Matt Crockett: Winnipeg 21 – Calgary 27
Nicholas di Giovanni: Winnipeg 29 – Calgary 35
Connor Ferguson: Winnipeg 28 – Calgary 35
Lance Keiser: Winnipeg 27 – Calgary 22
Gina Schiltz: Winnipeg 33 – Calgary 37

Week 3 Roundup

What an abysmal week for the LWOS CFL crew’s predictions! Three of our so-called experts blew all four of their calls; Gina and Nick got only one right. The Matts, Bin and Crockett, both ended up with a winning record, with Matt B missing the prediction only on Ottawa’s unfortunate collapse in Edmonton, and Matt C taking the long-shot Riders against B.C.

This week promises to be better, though. Toronto is on a bye, and the matchups are all divisional except for the return leg of the Ottawa-Edmonton trip. Surely the crew here will improve, right? If you think you can do better, post your predictions below!
