We are entering week four of the 2015 CFL season. This season has the makings of a very unpredictable and surprising start and finish. The week three CFL power rankings are in, also unpredictable and surprising.
Week Three CFL Power Rankings
1. Calgary Stampeders
Despite losing two key offensive linemen, Dan Federkeil and Edwin Harrison, along with with wide receiver Simon Carbonneau-Campeau, not to mention countless penalties, Calgary still managed to pull off a win against an extremely tough Toronto Argonauts team. Calgary worked hard on all facets of the game. Now the thing to watch next game is can the offensive line manage without their veterans and can they finally contain their penalties?
2. Hamilton Tiger-Cats
Hamilton, coming off a bye week, has something to prove. This week’s news has been filled with Nic Grigsby being released. They already have CJ Gable in their roster as tailback. The Ticats have an incredibly strong defence and a strong Quarterback in Zach Collaros – all they have to do now is continue proving they are the team to beat in the East.
3. Toronto Argonauts
A tough way to fall from the top of our Power Rankings, the Argos were down big early and showed they are not there yet, but getting close to being a top team. A bye week could be just what the doctor ordered for this squad before they continue their road swing.
4. Edmonton Eskimos
The Eskimos make a massive move up our ladder based on a big win against the Redblacks at home. Matt Nichols may have looked underwhelming in the Esks win, but it’s a team effort. Expect this team to be in the 4-6 spots most of the season.
5. Winnipeg Blue Bombers
The Winnipeg Blue Bombers took some risks in week three that paid immediate dividends, putting them atop the west division. They were just about in the four slot this week ahead of their division rival Edmonton Eskimos. Nick Moore is in top early form for 244 yards receiving on the year and is drawing double coverages away from Clarence Denmark. WARNING: Don’t sleep on Denmark.
6. B.C. Lions
The B.C. Lions are full value for the six spot. Travis Lulay might be the best QB in the CFL in week four, and maybe every week in 2015, but he and the Lions battled a team in the Riders that is much better than their nine spot might indicate. B.C. not only outplayed the Riders down the stretch, they out-coached and out-foxed the opposition. The offence and special teams look dialled-in considering how early we are in the season.
7.Ottawa Redblacks
The little team that could just fell off the tracks. Looking more like the team of 2014 against the Eskimos, the Redblacks may be on the verge of a major collapse.
8.Montreal Alouettes
Loss, win, loss might be the story in Montreal this season. If anyone can help the Als it’s Tom Higgins. They’re consistent at being inconsistent.
9.Saskatchewan Roughriders
Whats there to say about the Riders? Bad teams find a way to lose and the Riders may just be that bad, although no-one in Riderville will admit it. No Durant equals no wins. Might be a long season in Regina.
