Ottawa on Verge of Signing German Striker Ugur Albayrak

According to Ottawa Sun sports writer Chris Hofley, Ottawa Fury FC are likely to sign 27 year-old German striker Ugur Albayrak by the end of the week. The 5’11 frontman of Turkish descent most recently played with Eintracht Trier of the German Fourth Division, where he netted twice in sixteen appearances.

Albayrak, currently on trial with the club, would provide a fourth attacking option up top for Ottawa manager Marc Dos Santos, who already has the likes of Tom Heinemann, Andrew Wiedeman, and the recently-acquired Aly Hassan on his roster.

The move makes sense for Fury FC, seeing as the club has yet to find a clinical finisher in its two years of existence. However, with multiple injuries in the the club’s midfield and the aforementioned Heinemann finally coming into form, perhaps it’s the heart of the park which needs the boost of an international signing.

The seemingly imminent signing of Albayrak, a product of Kickers Offenbach’s academy, would likely force Scottish midfielder Nicki Paterson off the team’s active roster. The 30 year-old Paterson has been ruled out for the remainder of 2015 after unluckily tearing his ACL in training, and has no further on-pitch role to play with Ottawa this campaign.

In other news, it has been confirmed that Fury FC winger Oliver broke his nose after receiving an elbow last weekend in Minnesota. Despite the injury, the club has stated that he will soldier on, in all his face shield glory, and be available for selection this Sunday against Indianapolis.

Stay tuned for a full Fury FC match preview of this weekend’s six-pointer against the Indy Eleven later this week.
