Sporting Kansas City

Sporting shoot up to the top spot this week. They have been on an absolute tear and are first in PPG in the league. They are 5 points out of the Supporters Shield with 4 games in hand over current holders DC United. It is a safe bet that they can over take them this month. 4-1-1 3 +2
2

LA Galaxy

With the week off, it was hard to put them on top. While they have been smoking teams, they are still lacking consistency needed to be top dogs. If Gerrard can stay healthy, this team might be scary. 3-2-1 2 0
3

DC United

DC is still on top of the Shield, but their results haven’t been terribly consistent. If they want to hold the top spot in the Shield/East race, they are going to have to figure out ways to keep from dropping points, especially at home. No team has fewer road goals in the league. 2-3-1 6 +3
4

Vancouver Whitecaps FC

The Whitecaps shouldn’t feel too bad about losing to SKC, but it is their second straight loss. Strangely, they are having trouble scoring goals. Haven’t scored more than 2 in a game since May 9th. 3-3-0 5 +1
5

New York Red Bulls

The Red Bulls are back in the top 5 after an impressive demolition of the New England Revolution. While they have won 3 of their last 4, the competition hasn’t been all that challenging. They are back in second, and within striking distance of DC with 3 games in hand. The back end of the schedule will be conference games, so picking up points now will be critical. 3-3-0 15 +10
6

FC Dallas

Winners of 3 straight and all have come without Blas Perez. Just something to think about after the Gold Cup is over. 3-1-2 12 +6
7

Portland Timbers

Portland has been playing great since the end of May, but two big black marks drop them down the list. Demolished by LA is nothing to hang your head at, but being put to the sword in the City of Brotherly Love is something else entirely. 4-2-0 1 -6
8

New York City FC

A wild game on the weekend saw them keep their strong record of late, but the defense has to be troubling Jason Kreis. A visit to the putrid Revs should be a good marker for further progress. 4-1-1 8 0
9

Orlando City SC

Orlando is about to enter a crucial stretch with games against NY, NYC, and Columbus. 7 points in that stretch will show that they are more than a flash in the pan. 3-2-1 9 0
10

Philadelphia Union

The Union are becoming something akin to “Giant” Killers. They have scalped DC, RBNY, PTFC and Seattle this year. Results of late are encouragin, but most of the teams ahead of them in the playoff race have games in hand. 3-2-1 14 +4
11

Seattle Sounders FC

Seattle has scored twice in their last 5 games. 4 out of 5 were losses. They might be on top of the west, but they need production from someone who’s last name doesn’t start with Dem, or Mar. 3-3-0 4 -7
12

Houston Dynamo

Houston may have beaten San Jose, but they are still figuring themselves out. Encouraging signs holding a shutout and getting Will Bruin back on the score sheet. 2-2-2 17 +5
13

Toronto FC

Toronto has given up 8 goals in their last 2 games. Playoff teams defend better than that. They are in good position now, but they are still walking a very fine line between brilliance and calamity. 2-2-2 10 -3
14

Columbus Crew SC

Montreal really has it out for the the Crew this year, but really Columbus has no one to blame but themselves. They have been abysmal on the road this year. -11 GD and only 6 goals scored. 2-2-2 11 -3
15

Colorado Rapids

Colorado jumps a couple of places thanks to back to back wins for the first time this season. Can they keep this run going? 2-2-2 18 +3
16

San Jose Earthquakes

San Jose was nearly a top five team last week. Oh how the mighty have fallen. Any growing pains they suffer this year can largely be ignored until September when the Kinnear magic comes into play. Will they be able to hold out until then? 2-3-1 7 -9
17

Montreal Impact

Their drop in the standings is a result of cumulative performance, but dig this. Only two teams in the East have a better home GD. DC United, and Columbus Crew SC 2-3-1 13 -4
18

Real Salt Lake

Might be time to start packing it in. Only 1 win since June. 1-2-3 16 -2
19

Chicago Fire

Chicago stopped the bleeding, but even they surely know they were fortunate to win against a superior Seattle side. I don’t think the shouts will get any quieter for a change at the helm. 1-4-1 19 0
20

New England Revolution

Jay Heaps’ annual summer blowout is in full swing. Seriously, are they Revs just allowed to take the summer off? 1-5-0 20 0
